Giving

St Paul wrote: "Each one should give what he had decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

St George's is a growing and vibrant church. To do everything we do, we rely entirely on the money we generate ourselves. We get no assistance from the greater Church.

We need nearly £5,000 a week to run St George's.

For all church contact details (post, phone and email) as indicated below in bold text, please click here.

What should I give?

Although the Church is reluctant to lay down hard and fast rules about giving, all of us can do with some advice in this area. Otherwise some people feel guilty that they don't give enough while others simply reach for loose change whenever they hear the word "collection".

So how much should we give? The Bible is clear that we should set aside a tenth of our earnings for the church and charities - other major world religions have similar guidance. Giving can transform the world - our lives as well as others, our neighbours, our community and beyond. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world".

How should I give?

Planned Giving

This is one of the principal ways of belonging to St George’s and it is the most effective way to give to your church. Each member of the scheme commits to give a regular amount each week/month/quarter direct from your bank account. It can be easily set up, amended and cancelled. The benefits to you are:

  • you show your determined membership of St George’s
  • you do so even when you are not at a service
  • you do not have to suddenly find loose change when the collection bag comes round

The benefits for St George’s are that we know the money is pledged and we can budget ahead accordingly.

Regular payments can be made monthly, quarterly or yearly. Many people these days like to set up standing orders themselves (and this is the quickest and most efficient way), or if you would prefer, we can ask your bank to set it up on your behalf. If you wish us to do this for you, please obtain a standing order form from the back of the Church, complete and sign it, and send it to The Treasurer c/o The Parish Office.

Matched Giving

Some employers will match any amount given by their employees to charitable causes. So whatever you give to St George’s, your employer might donate the same amount. Do you have access to such a scheme?

Some employers do not support religious causes and others will only give through sponsored events. So whether you support St George’s and other charities by standing order or sponsored events, please enquire if you could double your donation!

Online Giving

You may wish to make a donation to St George's by using our PayPal facility. This allows you to use a credit or debit card to make your donation; all your details remain completely secure, and your details are kept confidential between yourself and PayPal.

You will also have the option to add a note to us regarding how you would like your donation to be used; if you would like to do this, click on the line that says "use of your donation" underneath "Purpose: St George Campden Hill" and fill it in. If you have no preference, leave this field blank.

Gift Aid

If you are a UK taxpayer, we can supplement any donation of yours by 28p for every £1 donated by reclaiming the tax you have already paid on it from the government under the Gift Aid scheme. Gift Aid reclamations are a very important part of our income, but in order to claim under the scheme we need you to make a one-off authorisation for us to do so. This can be in one of two ways:

  1. By sending an email to the Parish Administrator. Please include your full name, your address, and the text “Until further notice, I authorise you to treat all my previous and future donations to St George’s Campden Hill as Gift Aid donations”.
  2. By filling in the Gift Aid Declaration form at the back of the Church and sending it to The Treasurer c/o The Parish Office.

If you need any advice on, or have any queries regarding, the Gift Aid scheme or how to make payments, please do not hesitate to contact the Parish Administrator by phone or email.
